Orthodontics for Residents of Claremont, Subiaco, Nedlands and beyond
The Damon System is not just about revolutionary braces and wires, it’s a whole new way of treating patients in Nedlands, Subiaco and throughout Perth.
Traditional orthodontic treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon smiles are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient.
The length of treatment involved with this form of orthodontics varies for every patient and can even be completed in little as six months!
Braces are the beginning, but the system makes the smile
Dr James Andrews and Dr Daniel Abbondanza combine three key components, which when used together, deliver faster treatment, fewer appointments, greater comfort, and consistent high-quality results:
Damon passive self-ligating braces that eliminate the need for elastic or metal “ties”. With Damon tie-less braces you can experience treatment without tightening.
Light high-technology shape-memory wires that move teeth faster and require fewer adjustments.
A new clinically proven treatment approach that aligns your teeth and enhances your facial aesthetics – usually without extractions or rapid palatal expanders
Traditional braces are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.
They are also designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, this solution makes dental hygiene easy during treatment.
Dr James Andrews and Dr Daniel Abbondanza are both general dentists with a special interest in orthodontics. They are both currently completing a Two Year Mini Residency in Dentofacial Orthopaedics and Orthodontics under orthodontist Dr Derek Mahony. Previous to this Dr James Andrews provided his patients with the Six Month Smile brace system in the UK.

What is an Inman Aligner?
The Inman Aligner is the perfect solution for crowding or protrusion of the front teeth. It is really fast, very safe and great value compared to other systems. With the patented Inman Aligner, your front teeth can be gently guided to an ideal position in a matter of weeks. Most cases complete in 6-16 weeks and because it’s removable you can take it out to fit with your lifestyle.
The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other, guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly.
The image below shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.

Why choose Invisalign?
When it comes to considering your orthodontic options for straight teeth at Claremont Dental, whether in Subiaco, Nedlands or Perth, it’s easy to see the clear benefits that Invisalign provides on top of improving your smile. Besides being an effective and scientifically advanced method of straightening your teeth, Invisalign has the bonus advantage of being practically invisible. This means that you can get on with your every day, busy, work life without any worries or self-consciousness.
- Invisalign is nearly invisible and hardly noticeable
- Invisalign can be removed for proper brushing and flossing to ensure optimal oral hygiene
- Invisalign can also be removed when eating and drinking and allows you the freedom to eat what you want as food will not get caught in the aligners as they would with metal braces
- Invisalign is comfortable as it does not irritate teeth and gums the way metal braces do

Invisalign Frequently Asked Questions:
How long does Invisalign take?
The treatment duration for the Invisalign procedure is similar to braces with an average time frame of 12-18 months. Dr James Andrews will schedule in regular appointments throughout your Invisalign treatment – usually about once every eight weeks – to ensure that your Invisalign treatment is on track and progressing as planned.
Do I need teeth removed?
As Invisalign utilises the advanced technology of computerised treatment software, often there is no need for any of your teeth to be removed, even if they are mildly crowded. By avoiding teeth removal, this means less discomfort for you along with reduced costs and a quicker treatment period.
Is Invisalign comfortable?
Most people will experience a temporary feeling of pressure over the first few days of each new stage of treatment. This is a positive sign as it means that your new Invisalign aligners are working to sequentially move your teeth to their final destination. This feeling of pressure typically goes away after a couple of days after you fit in your new Invisalign aligner.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Like all orthodontic treatments, your Invisalign aligners may temporarily affect your speech by giving you a slight lisp. However, as your tongue adjusts to having aligners in your mouth, any lisp or minor speech impediment caused by the aligners should disappear in a few days. The more you wear your aligners, the quicker you will adjust to them.
What foods can I eat with Invisalign?
Unlike traditional wires & brackets, you can eat a wide variety of foods throughout your Invisalign treatment because you can remove your aligners to eat and drink. However, a diet that is high in sugars and involves frequent snacks should be avoided in order to maintain good oral health.
It is also vitally important that you brush your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to maintain proper oral hygiene.
Will my teeth move after my Invisalign treatment is finished?
In order to prevent your teeth moving or relapsing after Invisalign treatment is completed, Dr James Andrews will recommend that you wear retainers. After your treatment is completed, most patients will continue to wear clear plastic retainers throughout the night whilst you sleep only.
Is Invisalign an option if I’ve already had braces?
If you have had braces in the past and have not been wearing retainers, your teeth may have moved or relapsed. The d-spa team has successfully treated many patients that have been in this situation using Invisalign treatments in Perth as an alternative to wearing braces again.
