Children's dentistry.
Helping little smiles grow with confidence.
Good dental habits start early.
At Claremont Dental, we want children to feel comfortable, positive and confident about visiting the dentist.
We take a gentle, preventative approach to help protect developing teeth, identify potential problems early
and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
What is children's dental?
Every child is different, and there's no need to wait until something is wrong before visiting the dentist.
We recommend a first dental visit when your child's first tooth appears or by around 12 months of age. From there, we'll recommend an appropriate check-up schedule based on their individual dental development and needs
Is it right for your child?
Family dental care is for anyone looking for a dentist to look after their oral health over the long term.
Whether you're overdue for a check-up, have noticed something you're concerned about or simply want to establish good dental habits for your family, we're happy to start with a conversation.
Our approach
We want children to enjoy coming to the dentist.
A positive experience early in life can make a real difference to how children feel about dental care as they grow.
We'll take the time to introduce your child to the practice, explain things in a way they can understand and let them become comfortable at their own pace.
There's no rushing and no judgement - just gentle, age-appropriate care designed to help your child build a healthy relationship with dentistry.
What to expect
Your child's appointment will generally begin with a gentle examination of their teeth, gums, jaw and developing bite.
Depending on their age and needs, we may also provide a professional clean, discuss brushing and flossing, talk about diet and decay, or recommend preventative treatments such as fissure sealants.
If we identify something that needs attention, we'll explain it clearly and talk through the options with you.
The goal is simple: healthy teeth and a child who feels comfortable coming back.
Your questions answered
When should my child first see a dentist?
We recommend their first visit when their first tooth appears or by around 12 months of age. If you have concerns before then, there's no need to wait - we're happy to see them sooner.
How often should children visit the dentist?
This depends on your child's individual dental health and development. For many children, appointments every 6–12 months are appropriate, but we'll recommend the schedule that's right for them.
What are fissure sealants?
Fissure sealants are a tooth-coloured protective material applied to the grooves of back teeth. They can make these harder-to-clean areas easier to keep clean and help reduce the risk of decay.
Can you help if my child is nervous?
Absolutely. We understand that some children need more time to feel comfortable. We'll work at their pace, explain what we're doing and focus on creating a positive experience rather than rushing through an appointment.
Health funds
Claremont Dental accepts a wide range of major health funds.
Some eligible children may also be able to access benefits through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Eligibility and available benefits can change, so we recommend checking the current requirements before your child's appointment
