What is a filling?
A dental filling is used to restore a tooth where decay or damage has created a cavity or weakened part of the tooth.
The damaged area is carefully removed and replaced with a restorative material, helping protect the remaining tooth structure and restore its normal function.
Is it right for you?
A filling may be appropriate when a tooth has early or moderate decay, a small fracture or other minor damage.

What to expect

We'll check the finished restoration and your bite to make sure everything feels comfortable before you leave.

How do I know if I need a filling?
Decay doesn't always cause pain or obvious symptoms. A dental examination can identify areas of decay or damage and help determine whether a filling or another treatment is appropriate.
Are fillings painful?
The procedure is generally performed with local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. We'll explain what's happening throughout your appointment and make sure you're comfortable before we begin.
How long do fillings last?
The lifespan of a filling depends on factors including the tooth involved, the size of the restoration, your bite and your oral health. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor existing fillings over time.
Can an old filling be replaced?
Sometimes. If an existing filling has deteriorated, cracked or the tooth around it has developed further decay, we'll assess the tooth and explain the available options.
