Teeth whitening.
A brighter smile, thoughtfully done.
Teeth whitening can help reduce the appearance of discolouration and brighten your smile, giving your teeth a fresher, more even appearance.
At Claremont Dental, we take a considered approach to whitening, assessing your teeth first and recommending an option that's appropriate for you.
What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses a whitening agent to lighten the colour of your natural teeth.
It can be effective for certain types of staining and discolouration, although the results will vary depending on your teeth, existing restorations and the type of staining present.
Is it right for you?
Whitening may be suitable if you'd like to brighten naturally discoloured or stained teeth.
Before treatment, we'll assess your teeth and gums and discuss what's causing the discolouration. Existing fillings, crowns, veneers and other restorations won't whiten in the same way as natural teeth, so this is an important part of deciding whether whitening is right for you.
A good result starts with knowing what can realistically be achieved.
Our approach
Brighter doesn't have to mean unnatural.
We don't believe cosmetic dentistry should be about chasing the whitest possible smile.
We'll look at your individual teeth, discuss your expectations and recommend an appropriate approach based on what we believe will give you a natural-looking result.
If whitening isn't likely to achieve what you're hoping for, we'll explain why and discuss the alternatives available.
It's your smile. The result should still feel like you.
What to expect
We'll first assess your teeth and gums and discuss the shade you're hoping to achieve.
If whitening is appropriate, we'll explain the recommended treatment and how to use it safely.
Some patients can experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after whitening. We'll explain what you can expect and how to manage this if it occurs.
Results vary from person to person and aren't permanent. Your teeth will naturally pick up some staining over time, particularly from foods and drinks.
Your questions answered
How white will my teeth become?
Results vary depending on your natural tooth colour, the type of staining and the whitening treatment used. We'll discuss what we believe is realistically achievable for you.
Will teeth whitening damage my teeth?
When appropriately assessed and carried out as directed, professional whitening is designed to brighten natural teeth safely. We'll make sure you understand how to use your whitening treatment correctly.
Can whitening make my fillings or crowns whiter?
No. Whitening affects natural tooth structure and won't change the colour of existing fillings, crowns, veneers or other restorations.
How long does teeth whitening last?
The results aren't permanent. How long they last depends on factors including your diet, oral hygiene and exposure to staining foods and drinks. Some patients choose to refresh their whitening over time.
Health funds

Your level of cover will depend on your individual policy, so we recommend checking your available benefits before treatment.
